Real Beauty

4/7/2015

In this video, Sonia Singh tells her story of "undermaking" thrift store dolls. She takes off their makeup, dresses them in age appropriate clothes, and reveals their natural beauty.

In the same way, we can see below the material surface of things and discover our natural beauty, which is actually a spiritual quality.

Here are some thoughts on the spiritual nature of beauty from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy:

"As the physical and material, the transient sense of beauty fades, the radiance of Spirit should dawn upon the enraptured sense with bright and imperishable glories" (p. 246).

"Each succeeding year unfolds wisdom, beauty, and holiness" (p. 246).

"
Beauty is a thing of life, which dwells forever in the eternal Mind and reflects the charms of His goodness in expression, form, outline, and color. It is Love which paints the petal with myriad hues, glances in the warm sunbeam, arches the cloud with the bow of beauty, blazons the night with starry gems, and covers earth with loveliness" (p. 247).

"
Love never loses sight of loveliness. Its halo rests upon its object. One marvels that a friend can ever seem less than beautiful" (p. 248).

"
Love, redolent with unselfishness, bathes all in beauty and light" (p. 516).

"I love to observe Christmas in quietude, humility, benevolence, charity, letting good will towards man, eloquent silence, prayer, and praise express my conception of Truth's appearing." ~Mary Baker Eddy

"The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth his brother's need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another's good." ~Mary Baker Eddy

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. ~Luke 2:8-11

Still have a lot of Christmas baking, shopping, wrapping to do?
Would it be nice to feel some peace?

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27

That's a promise that no matter how stressful the details get, God's right there, giving you peaceful and calm solutions.

Here are some other thoughts on peace:
  • The storm is stilled: Mark 4:36-39
  • "Christmas is not in what I'm physically doing, but what I'm feeling of the Christ's presence in my life." Read more

Take a moment to reflect on the Christmas story. You'll feel inspired!

"At this happy season the veil of time springs aside at the touch of Love. We count our blessings and see whence they came and whither they tend. Parents call home their loved ones, the Yule-fires burn, the festive boards are spread, the gifts glow in the dark green branches of the Christmas-tree." ~Mary Baker Eddy

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever." Isaiah 9
December 23
"When a new spiritual idea is borne to earth, the prophetic Scripture of Isaiah is renewedly fulfilled: 'Unto us a child is born,...and his name shall be called Wonderful'" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 109.)

If you're having a family gathering this year, chances are your house is filling up. This is a great time to remember Mary Baker Eddy's thoughts from her article, "Taking Offense." And if you're interested in considering some ideas on God's family tree, hop on over to my blog page! Here are Mrs. Eddy's thoughts on spending time with others.

"We should remember that the world is wide; that there are a thousand million different human wills, opinions, ambitions, tastes, and loves; that each person has a different history, constitution, culture, character, from all the rest; that human life is the work, the play, the ceaseless action and reaction upon each other of these different atoms. Then, we should go forth into life with the smallest expectations, but with the largest patience; with a keen relish for and appreciation of everything beautiful, great, and good, but with a temper so genial that the friction of the world shall not wear upon our sensibilities; with an equanimity so settled that no passing breath nor accidental disturbance shall agitate or ruffle it; with a charity broad enough to cover the whole word's evil, and sweet enough to neutralize what is bitter in it, — determined not to be offended when no wrong is meant, nor even when it is, unless the offense be against God" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 224.)

Giving Thanks

11/24/2014

International Space Station Commander, Barry "Butch" Wilmore, shares his thoughts about Thanksgiving Day. He covers all the bases. Gratitude for the early settlers who bravely journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean for freedom and economic opportunity. Gratitude for the military, who help uphold freedom here and abroad every day. Gratitude for family, and the opportunity to have a day dedicated to giving thanks. Gratitude for the provision of delicious food, which reminds us of the daily bounty we have at our fingertips. And last, but not least, the opportunity to fulfill our dreams and lead lives full of joy and satisfaction.

I'm wishing all of you a Thanksgiving Day full of gratitude and peace.

Here are some other resources on the topic of gratitude:
